How are you teaching about Pearl Harbor?

National Geographic Education just relaunched this popular interactive on our new website. Check it out at its new home!

I'd love to hear how educators are teaching about Pearl Harbor. How do you explain to students, most of whose grandparents are too young to even remember Pearl Harbor, about the impact this attack on U.S. soil had on the nation and U.S. involvement in the War?

Do you address how Pearl Harbor affected later U.S.-Japanese relations and led to tthe establishment of  internment camps for Japanese Americans?

I am so pleased to see this interactive available on the National Geographic Education website. It has been a favorite of teachers and students.

I will have students compare primary sources to determine "Why the Japanese attacked the U.S. on December 7, 1941" with the reason for another more recent attack on U.S. soil, that of September 11, 2011.  I will have them think about how the U.S. reacted to these two events and why.  I will then have them consider alternative responses to conflicts in their own lives and as a nation.
