Stepping Stones Together was created as a valuable parent-child resource for beginning reading skills including reading, writing, and reading comprehension.
It is an online parent/child emergent reading program most appropriate for children when they are ready to read between the ages of 3-6. The idea is to empower busy parents with the tools to take an active role in their child's beginning reading skills, foster a love of reading, and a positive bonding experience for even the time challenged parents!
The program will offer a very affordable ($19.99 for the 60 day program but access for 90 days) way for parents to get their child on their way to reading success. There is also a full year access to the program for $39.99. It offers high interest text (superheroes, sports, transportation, animals, princesses, fairies) repetitive syntax, helps develop print awareness, and utilizes all 220 high frequency words and more that 200 vocabulary words inclusive of the 95 most common nouns in children books.
It incorporates a behavior incentive program, daily writing, and critical thinking/higher order reading questions for parents to focus on daily. Lastly, there are games to help children master high frequency words that they will love. The printable books themselves are coloring books and can also be read directly on the site from any computer or web compatible phone.
Users choose access to 2 to 3 themes dependent on their child’s interests when signing up for the program. Each personalized start page has their child’s name displayed on each book on the site. Caregivers can type in their child’s name to each printable book. All books include comprehension questions on the last page. These questions ask everything from recall of facts, making inferences, summarization, as well as elicit critical thinking skills and discussion of how a story is applicable to their child’s experiences.
Members are initially given access to their chosen Level A books. Parent/child teams read each book, print out and complete the daily writing activity, complete the additional games with the book flashcards, and then click complete on the website. A green check mark will remain on their personalized homepage across from the completed book each time they revisit the site. Level B books become available for the parent/child team once all Level A books are marked complete.
