What special resources do you use when addressing content area topics related to science?

When addressing the needs of English Language Learners, we are required to cover content areas, such as science....biology, earth science, physics, and chemistry.  Our ELLs require strong visuals, especially when faced with this technical vocabulary.  I often use childrens literature, with vivid illustrations, to engage students in conversation about science content.

One of my favorite books is - Q is for Quark  - by David M. Schwartz.  It is an "abc" book about science vocabulary...covering all areas.

I have attached a sample from the power point, that I created for middle school students...It helps to demonstrate ways that we can introduce new vocabulary.

Another favorite resource that students enjoy, is Thinkfinity's http://www.sciencenetlinks.com/interactives/systems.htm

It is a clever way to reinforce biology and body systems...

What do you do when teaching science? Please share your ideas and resources...
