Should life skills (i.e. financial skills, media literacy) be required in 21st century education?

How important is teaching life skills to students?  In a similar discussion, several members wrote that good decision making, evaluating choices, saving, understanding credit use, and budgeting are skills that don't change with time.  The tools used to practice them do however.  So it is important to teach students how to manage personal finances and learn other life skills such as media literacy.
