I Have an Idea

Ideas come in many shapes and sizes. Some ideas are old, some are new, and some are borrowed.  As teachers, ideas are critical to what we teach and how we teach.  The longer a person teaches, the more ideas come to mind.  That’s why groups such as Docentes are so important.  One of the reasons for these forums is to share ideas.  Currently, there are 78 members in Docentes, and I know that many of you have ideas. The point being that it would be a good thing for more teachers in Docentes to share some of those ideas.  These ideas don’t have to “big ideas”, remember if an idea is a new idea to someone, it could be a big idea.  Is there an easy way to share an idea? Yes, simply post the website and maybe a short comment about what the website is about.

This isn’t about making this group larger, it’s about making membership in this group more effective for you and the other members in the group.

Here’s an idea that I got from someone else (Carmen Villasol Universidad de Barcelona),

I wish that educators and professionals who work with students did not feel intimidated by posting their thought on-line.  Every one is conditioned to seek approval and permission.  It's a scary time. I am grateful for the folks who contribute here at Thinkfinity.  There are always trolls and spammers for any open-source, open-content site like Thinkfinity.  But, the cream rises to the top.

Good thoughts and you have hit on something very important, feeling intimidated about posting online. Thankfully and hopefully, members in Docentes will never feel intimidated nor feel as their idea is not "good enough" to post.

In addition to the fear factor - administrators actively discourage participation in social media as a "waste of time."  I think we have a long way to go until this mentality changes.  Thank you for putting the request out there.  I had a need to communicate using my rudimentary Spanish yesterday -but it was worth the effort.  I learned that the patron was part of the Mariel boat lift from Cuba and it encouraged me to pursue more information.
