cast pic.jpgIt's been a while... As the year starts to wind down it's always a good time to reflect back on what worked, what didn't, how can we improve our individual classrooms. One project that we began early in the year was the CAST   Computer Assisted Screening Tool (Computer Assisted Screening Tool) Program offered by the Language Acquisition Resource Center at San Diego State University. CAST works great for students who can go to the lab and take the exams, but for those who wanted to try to do this at home there were some inherent problems to overcome. I should mention that LARC provided some fantastic support so that students at my high school could try to do this in class. There were just too many obstacles to over come. Now the good news! CAST has redesigned the process to make this available to any computer anywhere, that's a good thing. Check it out at this link. If you have any questions, the people at LARC will be happy to help you out. CAST is more than just a speaking screening tool. There are also classes so that teachers can learn how to grade the speaking exams. Ideas, they are what keep us thinking...
