Zamzar is also my favorite. However, I have used a couple of other sites as well.
Free File Converter http://www.freefileconvert.com/ (Click on Convert File tab)
Media Convert http://media-convert.com/
I have not downloaded any of the resources from either of the sites above. I have used these websites just for file conversions. The sites send you a URL link to click on and download your converted file. They really work faster than Zamzar, especially since you have to open your email to see the link for the Zamzar conversion.
Hope these help.
I'm embarrassed to admit—I didn't even know these existed!
Can you each tell us a little bit about why you prefer one over the other? tehweb—is there a reason you don't want to use Format Factory anymore?
Also: what are your most frequent types of file conversions? Is it mostly doc > pdf, or are their other files you convert frequently?
I recently discovered that Google Docs is using OCR technology to allow users to upload and convert PDF files to Google Docs that can be edited. This is a great tool for teachers who want to provide digital copies of materials for students to fill out.
You can read more about how to upload PDFs into Google Docs here.
As for converting video files, I prefer a free download, AnyVideoConverter. It hasn't failed me yet and I find that the converted videos are of higher quality than from Zamzar or other web based sites.

Are you looking for a way to convert a PDF into an editable Word document? Check out the free Nitro Software PDF to Word Converter. The site allows you to browse for a PDF file, enter you email address, and select convert to Word. PDF to Word will email you when your file is ready for download.
PDF to Word also offers a subscription service for batch conversions on your desktop.
What do you think of this free coverter?
In my experience, the PDF to Word converter is 100% free (similar to the way Zamzar works). The only time you have to pay is if you decide to purchase the Nitro PDF Professional version of the desktop program after you download the free trial for 14 days.
The PDF to Word converter requires no download. You just browse to your PDF file, provide your email address, and the converted Word document is sent to you.
I think this is a wonderful find! I agree it is a great site to add to one's "Tool Box."
