A few years back, I found this great survey that was created by the National Center for Family Literacy that helped identify if a teacher’s classroom promoted multiculturalism. In the beginning of the school year during a staff in-service, we would pass this survey out to teachers and share ideas. The survey is titled How Family and Culturally Rich Is Your Classroom?
Please share how you ensure that your classroom welcomes families and promotes multiculturalism.
That is a great survey! Would love to share with Reaching ELLs, too. ELL/bilingual teachers need to be cultural ambassadors and promote multiculturalism in their schools, so the survey would be a great tool for them to share with other teachers in their schools/districts.
As an ELL teacher, I make a point of sharing cultural "tips" with classroom teachers and resources for communicating with families in their native languages. Your survey will be a welcome addition to my "toolbox".
