How do you report and explain standardized test results and progress to parents and students?

As the year comes to an end, students will receive their final report card and often the results of their state mandated standardized test.  Sometimes the test results conflict with the progress represented on the report card. For example, a teacher could report that a student has earned a “C” for math yet the standardized test shows the student in the 87th percentile.

How do you report and explain standardized test results and progress to parents and students? Have you ever had a parent or student concerned about their standardized test results? If so, how did you ease their concern?

Here is an article explaining the different types of testing measures and also information on how parents can understand the scores.
