The challenges that the U.S faced after the civil war was segregation and racisim. The whites from the south that had to give up slavery still showed hatred towards the blacks and kept them separated from them as much as possible. They made them stand up/ sit in a different section on the bus, they couldn't drink from the same water fountain or go to the same the school and it even kept blacks from getting jobs.
The United States had to reconstruct their government. African Americans wanted equality and many other groups acted violently in attempt for change. During this time, many thought the cause of reconstruction was allowing Blacks to participate in politics. The United States had to figure out how they were going to reunite the nation. Plus, they had to come to a decision on slavery. The economic faces they faced were from the war and that played a part. Also, there was social challenges seeing as how the war was against their own people.
The north and south faced many problems after the civil war was done and over. The biggest problem for the north was traveling back to their homeland. They traveled a pretty long ways to fight with the south on the souths homeland .The south had problems as well. One of the problems was starvation of slavery. An estimated 1.5 million freed slaves starved to death after the war.
After the civil war the country faced the main problems of reconstructing their lives, their economy and their relations with one another. The south had to rebuild their lives around the idea that slavery was no longer allowed and the government did not support it. Also both sides had to try to be politically polite with the other even through all the bad blood.
Although the battle was over, southern North America had to recover from their loss and rebuild their living standards. When the war ended, the U.S was still seperated by segregation and racism. Some southern people felt blacks had hatred toward them, due to blacks fighting against them in the civil war. So they gave them nothing but disrespect.
The Southern economy went down after the Civil War due to them having no slaves. President Lincoln and the North helped put the South through reconstruction. It would not allow men who had fought for the South to vote. It forced the Southerns who had no financial means to pay taxes on their homes or lose them.
