Both Lincoln and Johnson supported lenient plans for Reconstruction.
Lincoln's plan said once ten percent of a southern state's 1860 voters had taken an oath of loyalty, the state could rejoin the Union.
Both Lincoln and Johnson provided for a generous amnesty to allow Southerners to retain their property and reacquire their political rights.
Johnson supported the 13th Amendment that abolished slavery but was reluctant to support Black suffrage believing this was an issue for states.
I believe that lincoln's plan is the best because it makes sure that the southern states will swear loyalty to the union.
Lincoln's plans for reconstruction began even before the war was over, he wanted to accomplish the task as quickly as possible. Johnson's plans were to do things such as giving pardons for an oath of loyalty and such. I think that Lincoln had a better plan for the union, because his ideals seemed to be more thought out and he worked on his plans longer.
The plan that was better for the union would be johnsons plan. It would be good for the union because it says that each state would have to abolish slavery to be readmitted. And the pardons are better because you have to be under an oath to have the pardon. This would be very good for the union since they are already trying to get rid of slavery.
President Lincoln and Johnson both had different reconstruction plans. Lincoln had a plan that called for ten percent of a states voters in 1860 to take the oath of alligance and pledge to adhere emincapation. Johnsons plan called for special state conventions that would be held to repeal the states decrease of seccesion, disclaim all confederate debts, and ratify the 13th amendment. In my mind I think Lincoln had the better plan for the union because of what it would do for the people and the system.
Lincoln's plan of 1863 called for 10 percent of a state's voters in the election of 1860 to take an oath of allegiance and pledge to adhere to emancipation. The state would then also have to set up a state government before being allowed back into the Union. This plan were relatively simple since Lincoln never believed that the Southern States had ever legally seceded. The Republicans were shocked at how easily the Southern states were to be allowed back into the Union. They were afraid the South would reinstate slavery once back. To prevent this, the Republicans came up with the Wade-Davis Bill of 1864. It increased the requirement of ten percent of the voters to fifty percent. It also wanted stronger safeguards for emancipation. Lincoln, however, refused to sign the bill and it was never passed. This reconstruction plan showed the clashing between President Lincoln and the Congress. Congress believed that the states had left the Union and had given up their rights. The Republicans also split up into two groups. One group was moderate and agreed with Lincoln that the re-admittance of the states should be done as quickly as possible. The other side wanted the aristocratic planters to be punished and the South dealt with harshly which is where Johnson's plan comes into the playing field.Johnson issued his own Reconstruction plan on May 29, 1865. Johnson's plan called for special state conventions. These conventions would be held to repeal the state's decree of secession, disclaim all Confederate debts, and ratify the Thirteenth Amendment. Johnson's plan did call for a quick re-admittance, but it also demanded that the leading Confederates be disfranchised. Johnson's plan was more similar to Lincoln's, but it also dealt with the Confederates slightly harsher, like the congressional plan. In the end, it was Johnson's plan that was put into action. I believe Johnson's plan was better because it prevented southern states to seceed again, and to prevent this southern states were to dealt with more harshly than Lincoln's plan. The controlling of the southern states to prevent them from seceeding again frightened the southerners and helped the union stay.
I believe that Lincoln's plan for reconstruction was better. Everything was already messed up, and Johnson's plan only made things worse. His plan disenfranchised all former military and civil officers of the Confederacy and all those who owned property worth 20,000 or more and made their estates liable to confiscation.Lincoln's plan granted amnesty to all who would take an oath of loyalty to the United States and follow all federal laws pertaining to slavery. His plan only temporarily excluded high Confederate officials, they would eventually be included.
Johnson's plan was to abolish slavery and Lincoln's plan was to get 10 percent of the voters of 1860 to take an oath of allegiance. I think Johnson's plan was better I think Johnson's plan was better because it says each state would have to abolish slavery before readmitted.
I think Lincoln's plan is better. He tries to get the people to pledge an oath and become part of the new government they are creating. He also wants everyone to be involved except the military officials and high confederate officials. He wants the people to decide. Johnson wants to give pardons out to people and wants states to repeal succession before being readmitted. I think Lincoln offers the best plan.
:Lincoln and Johnson both present good plans, but I think that Lincoln's plan is better and more for the people. He is wanting people to actually become a part of the government that he is trying to create by pledging an oath. He is letting those who want to, be involved except people in high ranking. He is creating democracy and letting the people decide. Johnson is just handing out pardon's to people he "thinks" would be good enough to help with the succession. I just agree more with Lincoln because he is for the people.
Both Lincoln and Johnson wanted pretty much the same thing, to rebuild the south, they both just had different ideas on how to do this. I think Johnson's plan is better because if the south have more comand on them they would have a better and faster chance to rebuild. Lincoln just wanted loyality, which I do not think is enough to rebuild the whole south.
* Johnson & Lincoln both had very good plans , but n my opinion Lincoln's was better and helped the people more ! By pledging this oath he is wanting to actully be in the goverment !!! Lincoln is actully lettin the people decide for themsleves and by doing this the people are gettin helped out more ! Johnsons plan was not exact it is jus pardons . In my opinion i would go with lincoln because his plan helps more with the people .
