Unlike the North, the South had very few factories to make weapons and equiptment. They also had very little railroads, bad trading systems, and they were greatly out numbered by the North The south only had about 9 million people and at least 3 million of them were slaves.
The North had great sources of communication, support, and trading. They had good railroads and much more men than the south had. However they had problems with money during the war. They were in dept from buying the supplies for the war.
The South did not have many supplies for the Civil War plus they had a population that was mostly slaves. The North had a much larger population than the South but they were in debt from buying the supplies they needed in the war. Both North and South faced disease, lack of rest, lack of food and water, and untrained soldiers.
