Through our district we have Moodle as a web page available, but it isn't parent friendly. I don't mind spending a small one time fee, but can't afford a monthly one to keep up a site. Does anyone have a a site that is parent, student and teacher friendly? One of the big things I am looking to use on the site is a calendar to post events and homework. This is for a 2nd grade class.
I am Rebecca Fernandez, I teach a "Microcomputer Applications in Education" at Lander University.
I teach my students how to put together a webpage using www.weebly.com.
I have found weebly to be VERY user friendly and there are no side bar advertisements on the sites created.
Check out my students pages at www.fernsclass.weebly.com.
Click on the Spring 2012 tab to view the pages my students are putting together for their "classrooms".
Good Luck and let me know if I can help you in any way.
You might consider setting up a group right here in the community to post your calendar listing of upcoming events, make homework information available, and even give parents the opportunity to ask questions or collaborate with each other on volunteer projects for the classroom. You can invite them to join your group if you want to keep it totally private.
Just a thought.
As an educator you can create a webage using http://www.pbworks.com - you can open to public or require user name and password - you can also set up students accounts, even 2nd graders can use pbworks. There is also a fee based that allows lots of extra stuff but I have used the free pbworks for 4 or 5 years with no problem.
I use PB Works as mentioned above. The students have pages and their lab assignements are posted there.
A calendar could be made on a page by creating a table.
If you just want a calendar you might want to try http://30boxes.com/ .
