After attending the Google Teacher Academy at the Boulder Campus in 2009, I was impressed with the innovation and creativity of the employees who are hired to work for Google. If you are not aware, Google staff have 20% time. Meaning, that for 20% of their work week, Google staff can work on a project of their choice. Additionally, Google offers their employees lots of perks including unlimited snacks, coffee bars and fun break areas. It is true folks, I've been there!
Since my trip, I have been inspired by how Google's culture creates incredible innovation. I have embedded one of my favorite videos that shares a bit about Google's culture. What could this look like if implemented in a school?
Wow Crystal! That was an incredible video. I always love to look into other people's worlds and see what their everyday job is like. What an experience it must be to work in a company that is so innovative and fun! When working with children you never know what the day is going to bring...sometimes I wish their was more to a school day than following a curriculum. Having an environment that welcomes new ideas and makes each individual feel like their ideas are worth giving a shot could make a difference. I know there are so many teachers that have been teaching for a long time that just don't feel the fire anymore. Maybe this is the reason........Google is a company or palce that more companies, businesses and even schools should emulate.
Great video! We are new at Thinkfinity. Our school is very young and our main characteristic is our focus on 21st century education (what is more than new for Switzerland). We use IT equipment even with our youngsters from Pre-K. We are also "neighbors" of Google headquarter in Zurich. Do you know if Google Zurich would be interested in a partnership in early education? We are using "google" every day and would like to know more about the whole range - that's why we are very excited to be member of this group. Hope to built up an active group membership. We are the Bilingual International School of Zurich and offer classes from Pre-K to Grade 2. English and German are teaching languages. Who would be interested in setting up a global classroom?
Looking forward to hearing from all of you.

Welcome to the Thinkfinity Community and the Do You Google Group!
Google did partner with some US schools in releasing their new CR-48 laptops to test in education. Perhaps you can contact them about testing in an international setting. Another option for getting involved with Google is to become a Google Certified Teacher or Google Certified Trainer.
Schools in the US are getting close to the end of the school year, but I am sure there are some great connections you can make within the community. I bet there are several classrooms that would be interested in Skyping with your students. Is there a particular topic that you may be looking to collaborate on?
Looking forward to continuing the conversation.
