Some of our teachers use the Oregon Trail software game by the Learning Company. This year our school upgraded to the Windows 7 platform. We are having difficulty running this game on the new platform.
Please let me know if you have encountered this issue and have come up with a work around solution.
Oregon Trail is a great game! I didn't even know they were still making it. I have played the first version online a few times. Brings back memories!
Let us know if you find a solution. My teachers are also having to find alternative software for programs that don't run well on Windows 7. I have encouraged teachers to search for similar resources in web 2.0 applications since department budgets usually can't make their money stretch for new software.
Was your Oregon Trail software compatible with Windows XP or Windows Vista? Here is some information from Azeez Nadeem - Microsoft Support.
Make older programs run in Windows 7:
Try this and check:
1. Copy the contents of the game to the hard drive
2. Right click setup and select compatibility mode
You may also consider disabling all security software and then try to install the game, follow the steps mentioned below:
Note: Enable all security software after performing troubleshooting steps.
If disabling security software does little help, turn off User Account Control (UAC) and then try to install the game.
Note: Microsoft does not recommend its users turning off UAC settings for security reasons.
Hope some of this information is helpful.
That's fantastic! I did some checking online and located those instructions. I am so glad they worked for you. I can remember using this program with students when we had Apple GS computers. That shows you how long I have been working with technology. It's great to know that the Oregon Trail game is still around. My students loved it and learned much information in a fun way.
