BioBlitz Video 3: Nighttime Bug Hunt

A BioBlitz brings kids and scientists together, mostly to conduct "species inventories:" attempts to identify as many varieties of organisms as possible in a 24-hour period. In this video, middle school students work with entomologists to find desert insects that are attracted to light (and have a lot of fun along the way).

Perhaps the best way to help students get a feel for biodiversity is to conduct your own "bioblitz" in a schoolyard or park. Even a seemingly deserted lot has many species living there, including plants, insects, and many microscopic and near-microscopic organisms.
