Wow, this year is zooming! It will be Thanksgiving Break soon .
If you missed the GaRID Conference held in East Point, GA November 4-6, 2011 you missed a great conference. This conference was inspiring, dynamic and FUN! The presenters included past RID president Cheryl Moose (MOOOOSE) as she is affectionally called. Her presentation was a "call-to-action" to get into the volunteer spirit. There are so many ways we can reach out and show a spirit of volunteering so everyone get involved. Also, on the presenters list was Antonio Goodwin, NAOBI president, who encouraged us to set goals and stick with our goals. We can and should be determined in our career and in our personal life to attain success. Another presenter was Jan Humphries author of "So You Want To Be An Interpreter" and her presentation was about our mindset. Do we have a fixed mind set or a mind set for growth? As interpreters the latter enhances our interpreting career. Then we has a presentation on the history of interpreting and Interpreter Training Programs by Dr. Carolyn Ball. Also, on the presenters list was Richard Brumberg who explained regardless of the setting it is all interpreting and we should make what we do about the work of interpreting.
There was also the meeting of various special interest groups (SIG), and a formal dinner and dance where GA interpreters danced the night away!
Sunday the GaRID elections were held and we would like to warmly welcome our new GaRID President Erin Salmon and Secretary Donna Davis!!! Donna is also a member of our thinkfinity group.
